Donate to KERA News this week for a chance to win a Package of Five Dance Lessons!

KERA is a non-profit public media organization which serves the North Texas and Dallas–Fort Worth areas with PBS (Public Broadcast System) and NPR (National Public Radio) programming.

All this week, Sep 17th – Sep 24th, KERA News (FM 90.1) is doing an “on air” fundraising drive, seeking new Sustaining Members to set up a regular monthly donation to help Public Radio in North Texas stay on the air.

Of course, existing members are welcome to make a one-time gift as well.

You may be wondering why I’m giving away five dance packages, totaling 25 lessons. It is simple really: Public Radio is IMPORTANT.

The news and the entertainment on KERA Radio and KERA TV are staples in my daily life. Every time I’m in my truck driving to and from the studio, I’m listening to KERA, KXT and/or WRR on my radio. They enrich my life on a daily basis.

So, back when Federal Funding was stripped away from PBS and NPR, I felt angry and helpless. I called and increased my humble “sustaining membership” from a $10 monthly donation to a $15 dollar donation, which was literally all I could afford to increase it by. I love teaching and dancing but, frankly I make ends meet more with my Pension and my Social Security than by teaching dance!

But, that tiny increase in my monthly donation didn’t seem enough! At that point, KERA was doing this massive campaign push to make up for the lost funding. Donor after donor with deep pockets were donating thousands of dollars in “matching donation incentives.”

Thousands of dollars, I didn’t have but I had a thought: I do have mad skills as a Dance Instructor. Maybe if I donated some Dance Packages as “incentives” to get other people to open their wallets…. Hmmmm… So, I contacted the marketing folks at KERA and they loved the idea…and the rest is history.

Periodically, I donate the packages and the packages get people to open their wallet and I feel all warm and fuzzy for doing my bit.
Win! Win! Win!
So, listen to Public Radio, become informed and entertained, and most of all donate to keep Public Radio on the air!
